Our Story

Scott & Julie Winslow

The farmhouse on Edgewood was built in 1884 by Dr. Robert Beazley.  It is nestled on the east side of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Greene County, just north of Charlottesville, Virginia.  In 1978 Scott’s parents retired to the farm from their home on Long Island. They were drawn to Central Virginia for its tranquility and beautiful mountain views.  Edgewood Farm had it all, including cows!

Our story began when we met in 1983.  It was love at first sight (or maybe second date).  Once Scott proposed, our plans to be married near the farmhouse, over looking the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, began.  It was the perfect wedding backdrop on September 22, 1984.  After a few short years and three children later, in one of life’s inevitable transitions, we moved our young family to Edgewood.

Over the next 30 years we tried our hand at raising cows, goats, chickens, pigs, honey bees, cats, dogs and most importantly, our precious children.  Eventually, we decided the old metal barn by the pond had served its purpose and needed to be replaced.  Scott, with the help of friends and neighbors, put pencil to paper and came up with a building designed for large farm equipment, complete with grand doors at either end.  Multiple bays were added on both sides with a second story for future loft storage.

During the summer of 2014, our daughter became engaged.  She and her betrothed wanted an outdoor fall wedding, when the leaves would be in full color.  They envisioned a ceremony by the pond with their reception held inside the new barn!!?  Just a little rearrangement of the bays made space for two restrooms and a small catering kitchen.  Large wooden beams and a rock fireplace were added.  Our functional, handsome barn was quickly transformed into a beautiful wedding venue.  Thus, Barn at Edgewood was born.

The apartments were finished as spacious rentals that naturally double as bridal suites. With our close proximity to Jefferson’s Monticello, University of Virignia, Blue Ridge Mountains, and a plethora of vineyards and breweries, we list them on Airbnb when not hosting weddings.

Our daughter’s dream wedding took place by the pond in October 2015.  Our eldest son and his beautiful bride were married under the old oak tree in July 2019. Barn at Edgewood has become a place to gather and create lots of special memories.  We host weddings, reunions, graduation parties, memorial services, picnics and more.  Both Riverside and Fieldside Loft apartments have welcomed travelers from near and far.  It has been an honor and pleasure to be part of every event and sojourn.  God willing, we hope to continue this tradition for many years to come.
